Welcome to our information page about the Australian Cultural Foundation crowd funder
Why are we doing a crowdfund for Lady Lash doco production?
We are independent film makers, which means we don't have a large amount of capital or resources. Possibilities of getting your story commissioned by a broadcaster/screen funding body- the timing has to work. We have been invited to goto Country by Aunty Sue- in April. This is an incredible offer to go out to country and film Lady Lash reconnecting with her country and learning the traditional ways. We believe this is a critical element to Crystals life story and the documentary Lady Lash - we can t refuse this invitation - we need to get their and film no matter what!
Why is Lady Lash an important story?
Crystal Clyne (Lady Lash MC) is an amazing and talented artist. She has sung in an Opera at the Sydney Opera House, she has toured the nation doing workshops in communities, and is an award winning MC. We want her story out there to connect with the audience, inspire and generate positive stories of Aboriginal women making a difference.
Crystal is a strong mother of three and the documentary has encouraged Lady Lash to take the opportunity to go back to country for healing. Crystal wants to connect to others and encourage them to connect to country to heal, and to help inspire and build her musical practice.
Male Hip Hop artists like Briggs and Baker Boy are fast becoming household names, lets support the Aboriginal women Hip Hop Artists too!

Real stories
Our media landscape is filled with content that generates/supports racism and sexism - sometimes its not so obvious- alot of the time it is, this is creating a divisive culture and lack of connection. In addition stories on TV (drama, documentary and commercials ) tend to tell a story of people who have big houses alot of things and haven't had much struggle to put food on the table and survive- or maybe they have but that is never translated into the stories. For these reasons I believe in making films that reflect reality- and without the patronizing narrative ›! Celebrating peoples strength and shear burning determination is the sort of story I want to see- we know you do too- so we are going to make this and get it out there!
How did you make the teaser?
I got together a team of talented and skilled people who want to be a part of something meaningful, that is the payment - It sounds strange to some but I'm being honest. All of the work that has been put in so far to make this story up to this point has been self funded. Everyone involved , cinematographers, sound recordist, producers, writer, editor, director all have worked for free, paid their petrol to get to shoots, etc. I am very grateful to everyone who has put in time to make this story happen- so far- that includes my friends who have looked after my kids so I can go to the shoots and my kids for putting up with me working hard !
If the teaser is made with love, imagine what we could do with funds. If you are an organization, business or individual that believes in the potential of this story and our team to meaningfully bring it to fruition please support the crowd funder- we have chose Australian Cultural Fund as it is tax deductible- so we hope this makes it easy to support.
